Since he was three, Tigran had an interest in chess and dreamt of becoming a world-class chess player. He had been actively playing until 1993, but focused on coaching afterwards.
In 2003, his student, Samvel Ter-Sahakyan (Ter-Saakyan), whom he coached from 5 years old became Champion of the European Youth Chess Championship, U10. At 14 years old, he obtained 1 point of GM norm. At 16, he became the youngest person to become a Grandmaster in Armenia.
Tigran is a professional chess trainer and has been working in Singapore since 2005; invited by the then-president of the Singapore Chess Federation. He chose to work in Singapore because international chess was well-developed by the Singapore Chess Federation and Singaporeans have shown a great and growing passion for chess.
Tigran has also contributed to the body of chess literature through his book, A Strategy of The King Play, published in Russia. The book was translated from Russian to English and published by Mongoose Press in Boston, with a foreword by Levon Aronian.
